Toru Hashimoto
Governor of Osaka Prefecture, Mayor of Osaka, the Osaka Restoration Association, the Osaka Metropolis Plan. A lawyer known from television, he turned to politics and shook national affairs from the regions. He lost his father in early childhood, made his own way as a lawyer, and was first elected governor at thirty-eight. The ten years in which he rose from governor to mayor and on to founding a new party coincided with the most turbulent period of his life. On the day of his first election, the element his destiny names as his partner of good fortune came round both in his ten-year phase and on the day itself. In the end he lost the referendum on the plan he had championed, and left politics. Why could he reach the summit in his most turbulent period? We read the course of a man who rose in a single generation and drew his own curtain against the phases of destiny and time.

Research Brief
What the case shows
- His destiny is of the type with thin ties to his parents, opening its own path in a single generation.
- Losing his father in early childhood became, in turn, the starting point from which his fortune grew.
- On the day of his first election as governor, the element his destiny names as his partner of good fortune came round both in his ten-year phase and on the day itself.
- Those ten years were the most turbulent of his life, and the period in which the layer of rank and honour stood at its lowest.
- True to a grade rich in the power to begin and less suited to carrying through to the end, he lost the referendum on his plan and withdrew of his own accord.
