Steve Jobs
Given up for adoption soon after birth, he left university after one term and started Apple from a garage at twenty-one. At thirty he left the company he had built; twelve years later he returned, and with the iPod and the iPhone remade the tools of the world. The founding sat inside a twenty-year void of ten-year phases. The return fell in the years when that same cycle came round again. Why those years? And what was the decade at the summit of the world traded against? From birth to his death at fifty-six, his life set against the phases of destiny and time.

Research Brief
What the case shows
- A destiny missing the seat of the father and the seat of the spouse. Soon after birth, he left the father’s seat.
- The twenty years from age seven fall inside a void of ten-year phases. Leaving university and founding the company both sit within it.
- The year he founded the company carried the same cycle as the day he was born.
- The year he left the company he had built fell outside the void decades. The tie remained — and his next two companies began that year.
- He returned to the company he founded in the two years when the cycle of the founding decades came round again at the scale of a year.
- In the decade when the energy that supports his life arrived, he released the products that remade the world’s tools. The calendar of the launch window matched his year of birth.
- That same decade was also the one that cut deepest into his life.
