Hideyo Noguchi
Yellow fever, the syphilis spirochete, the face on Japan's 1,000-yen note, the Rockefeller Institute. Born to a farming family by Lake Inawashiro, the boy who badly burned his left hand as an infant qualified as a doctor at twenty and crossed the ocean at twenty-four to stand on the front line of world bacteriology. He was named a Nobel Prize candidate, received the Imperial Prize of the Imperial Academy, and staked his final years on yellow fever. On 21 May 1928, in Accra, West Africa, he fell in the middle of that research at fifty-one. What raised the burned boy to the world's front line, and what overlapped on the day his life closed? We read a life that turned hardship into light against the phases of destiny and time.

Research Brief
What the case shows
- His destiny is a structure in which the energy of heaven flows in a single line into the self, and shines brighter the more it is polished by hardship.
- The two years in which he qualified as a doctor fall inside a window of void.
- His work, from the syphilis spirochete to yellow fever, is concentrated in the twenty years in which his foremost supportive star ran.
- In his final ten-year phase, the one point that held the flow of his destiny together is cut.
- 21 May 1928 was a day on which the window of void opened.
