Yoshito Usui
Crayon Shin-chan, Darakuya Store Monogatari, Super Shufu Tsukimi-san. A five-year-old boy, Shinnosuke Nohara of Kasukabe in Saitama, shakes the common sense of the adults around him without a trace of reserve and wraps his family and his town in laughter — through this one child, Yoshito Usui brought laughter and candour into homes across Japan. Born in Shizuoka and raised in Kasukabe, he worked at an advertising company before debuting in 1987 with Darakuya Store Monogatari. In 1990 he began Crayon Shin-chan in the seinen magazine Weekly Manga Action, and with the television anime that began on 13 April 1992 the work became a national story. From 1993 a film was released every year, and The Adult Empire Strikes Back in 2001 moved even its adult audience. In September 2009 he died suddenly at fifty-one. The story continues as New Crayon Shin-chan, drawn by the staff who had worked beside him. Why did a single serial in a magazine for adults become a national story? What was turning in time on that one day? We read the vessel he was born with against his destiny and the phases of time.

What the case shows
- His destiny holds a structure that grows by walking the opposite road to his parents. It is a structure of the genius type, one that breaks existing values and creates new ones.
- His is a destiny that stands in a single generation, without the backing of family or parents. Beginning by his own will and opening the way by his own strength is itself the condition of his success.
- At its centre lies an unshakeable vessel in which four stars of defence and self stand in a row. The less he bends to those around him, and the more he holds to his own conviction, the more strength he shows.
- From fifteen until his death he never once met a ten-year phase that blew as a tailwind. The tailwind that made his work a national story came from outside, in units of a single year and a single month.
- He holds the star by which what one has completed passes into other hands and goes on. In the two years from the year before his death, a structure turned in time by which the ground beneath him became water and gave way. After his sudden death, the story has been carried forward by the staff who had supported him.
