Ran Ito
Candies, “I want to go back to being an ordinary girl”, Hohoemi Gaeshi. The figure at the centre of a farewell that remains in the history of Showa-era idols. In her teens she stood at the centre of the group; four years after their debut, at the height of their popularity, they announced their break-up. With their last single they reached the top of the chart for the first time, and on 4 April 1978 they drew the curtain at Korakuen Stadium. On that day her ten-year flow had just entered a decade that coincides completely with the destiny she was born with. Two years later she returned as an actress, and after forty-one years she came back to the singing stage. Why did she close the curtain herself at the summit? We read her seventy-odd years against the phases of destiny and time.

Research Brief
What the case shows
- Her destiny carries a structure in which parent and self work closely together. It is also a type that raises a house in a single generation and brings it to completion within that generation.
- On 17 July 1977, a day on which the element most supportive of her destiny came round twice over, she announced the break-up.
- The break-up on 4 April 1978 fell on the 81st day of a ten-year phase carrying the same flow as her natal destiny. That decade was also the one in which work, honour and wealth expand most in her lifetime.
- She holds a star that keeps possibility alive in the unfinished rather than in completion. Just after reaching number one for the first time with the last single, she drew the curtain.
- The twenty years from thirty-three are a period of void fortune, and her marriage and childbirth fall within it. Afterwards, at the entrance to a decade that supports her destiny, she returned to the singing stage after forty-one years.
