Colonel Harland Sanders
Eleven herbs and spices, a white suit and a cane, Kentucky Fried Chicken — he is the founder whose own likeness came to stand in front of restaurants around the world. After drifting through job after job, he began serving meals in a corner of a filling station at forty, and lost his restaurant at sixty-five. From the road trips he then made with a pension cheque and a pressure cooker, selling his recipe, a worldwide chain was born. His two beginnings fall in the same kind of year, twenty-five years apart. On the day in March 1964 when he let the company go, what overlapped? We read his ninety years against the phases of destiny and time.

Research Brief
What the case shows
- His destiny carries a pattern of wisdom and originality, while holding a gap in the place that passes things down to others.
- His father's death, his first restaurant, the loss of that restaurant and the public listing of the company fall in the same kind of year, twelve years apart.
- The decade in which his main star and his foremost supportive star aligned was also the decade in which his total measure fell lowest.
- In the year he let the company go, the element that brings his destiny closest to completion stood in the open.
- Three months after entering a twenty-year void, he died.
