Tamori
Waratte Iitomo!, Tamori Club, Music Station and Bura Tamori. Counted among the Big Three of Japanese comedy, he became the face of noon-time live television across Japan. Working as an insurance salesman and a bowling-alley manager in Fukuoka, he was discovered by jazz musicians who saw his private comic routines, moved to Tokyo and broke through while living as a guest in the house of the cartoonist Fujio Akatsuka. Waratte Iitomo!, which began on 4 October 1982, ran for thirty-one and a half years and 8,054 episodes. In 2008 he closed his eulogy for Akatsuka with the words 'I, too, am one of your many works', and that same year Bura Tamori began. Why did one programme last so long? What overlapped on the day it began, and on the day it ended? We read it against the phases of destiny and time.
