Michael I Romanov
First Tsar of the Romanov dynasty, chosen by the Zemsky Sobor, the Treaty of Stolbovo, the Truce of Deulino — and a dynasty that lasted 304 years, until 1917. Born in Moscow on the eve of the Time of Troubles, the boy was separated from his parents at five when his family fell, and his father was later held captive in Poland. In 1613, at sixteen, he was chosen for a ruined throne that no one else would take. His father returned to rule beside him as Great Sovereign; brides entered his life and were lost; the Smolensk War ended in defeat. Yet the crown passed to his son Alexei and on to his grandson Peter the Great. What overlapped on 21 July 1613, the day of the coronation that opened three centuries, and on the day he died at forty-nine? We read it against the phases of destiny and time.

Research Brief
What the case shows
- His destiny receives little from father and superiors, and opens the way as a founder.
- The entrance to the throne lies inside a year of void.
- The coronation day falls in a period when the place of the family receives a breaking force.
- All thirty-two years of his reign were placed in a time when no support ran.
- He died in the third year of the first decade in which support arrived — and the crown passed to his son.
- What began in a year of void bore its result just after he entered a ten-year void.
